Who are we?
Candida Support org was begun by Marti & Jim White and is maintained by the Whites and their friends and partners, Betsy and John Hausig.

What is Candida?

"Candida albicans: A yeast-like fungal organism found in small amounts in the normal human intestinal tract. Normally kept in check by the body's own helpful bacteria, Candida albicans can increase in numbers when this balance is disturbed to cause candidiasis of the intestinal tract, or yeast infections of other parts of the body. Candida albicans causes thrush and vaginal infections."
Many medical conditions in our modern world can compromise our immune systems: excessive use of antibiotics or steroids (like Prednisone), oral contraceptives, overly-acidic pH levels from poor diet and stress, hormone imbalances and exposure to environmental toxins (often molds). Our exposure to all these modern traps sets our bodies up for the fall into this fungal yeast overgrowth.
When our immune systems are compromised, the normal yeast present in our bodies, called Candida, can "morph" from being a beneficial yeast into a harmful fungus. This fungal yeast can quickly grow out of the balance that nature intended and overwhelm the beneficial flora (acidophilus type friendly bacteria) that normally keeps natural yeast levels in check.
This new fungal form of yeast develops rhizoids (long, burrowing legs) that hook into and can even penetrate the mucus membranes in the intestinal tract and cause serious bowel damage and pain.
As time goes on, the morphed fungal yeast may burrow right through the intestinal wall. This condition, called Leaky Gut Syndrome, allows partially digested proteins and the yeast itself to travel into the bloodstream where they become toxins.
As undigested foods directly enter the bloodstream this may further cause an immediate allergic reaction to certain foods. Once the Yeast infection has access to the whole body, you have systemic Candida or systemic candidiasis.
So what does Candida overgrowth do to You?
The Symptoms of Candida
Women may associate the term Candida with vaginal Candida yeast infections (also called Vaginal Thrush) complete with:
- vaginal itching
- vaginal odor
- and sometimes vaginal discharge.
Candida infection in men has become more prevalent too. male Candida symptoms. Candida in children, thrush in babies.
Other Candida symptoms may include:

Our Personal History
My name is Jim White. My family and I live in West Michigan and we all were used to having excellent health. The summer we were married, my wife, Marti, got a severe sinus infection and took two courses of broad-spectrum antibiotics back-to-back. Shortly thereafter, soon after our son was born, she started experiencing stomach bloating, fatigue, lower backache, brain fog and rashes on her skin. After several years of this, she was diagnosed as having Candida fungal overgrowth by our natural health practitioner and directed to go on the Candida diet. When she was able to "perfectly" maintain the Candida diet, she found that the symptoms would go away and she felt perfectly wonderful. The Candida diet forbids sugar (even natural sugars like honey), grains (including bread, cereal and pasta), most fruit, anything fermented, mushrooms, milk and cheese --yes, it's almost impossible to stay on. She battled her Candida condition for years -always losing out to this impossible diet’s restrictions.
Then about five years ago I came down with a bad case of diverticulitis -a disease of the colon. It made me quite sick and kept me mostly in bed for about 6 months. It left me in a weakened condition even after I got better. In this vulnerable state I began to see that I too had Candida yeast overgrowth. It presented first as a rash on my arms and torso, then expanded with a frustrating fatigue, bloating, indigestion and brain fog. I later learned that this was one of the "classic" ways a person gets Candida yeast overgrowth -from a lengthy, weakened condition. Now we both had it!
Marti and I were always so tired - it seemed like we never had enough energy to do all we needed to do. This was coupled with the "brain fog" which made us feel like we were becoming senile (we were only in our late 40s/early 50s). She had frequent sinus/upper respiratory infections, “colds” with persistent coughs and nasal drainage. Even our 8-year-old son had a rash that wouldn't go away and behavioral problems in school.
I had pain in my joints, especially my knees and elbows. I could not get rid of my rash, no matter how I tried -and believe me, I tried everything!
Why is a Candida Yeast Infection so difficult to remove?
You should know that systemic Candida is one of the most difficult of all bodily conditions to treat. Once this Candida disease spreads throughout the body it is very very hard to control.
People struggle for years with the Candida diet, antifungals and the myriad of products available in health food stores or on the internet. Most of these people end up right where they started. We tell you this to emphasize just what you’re up against and also to make clear that there is no “magic pill” that cures Candida.
The body with Candida overgrowth has gone out of balance and must be helped to find its way to becoming rebalanced. Note that even the best natural cures for Candida work slowly. They take both time and a correct knowledge about how they work. It is also important to know what to expect during the healing process so you stay engaged. This is true healing.
Modern lifestyles support the imbalance that leads to Candida infection. Candida thrives on the foods that are a large part of the typical Western highly processed food diet. The fungal “factory” that turns out Candida is mostly in your digestive tract. This is where your overgrowth begins. These processed foods feed the Candida and also alter your body pH towards becoming more acidic and that sets up a perfect environment for ill health and overgrowth of the Candida.
Even the chlorine in our drinking water -there to kill harmful bacteria, also kills off some of our beneficial bacteria. Stress contributes to the proliferation of Candida, and heavy metals like mercury and other toxins in the body open the door even wider to this fungal Candida yeast overgrowth phenomenon. Candida is also easily transmitted through close person to person contact when someone is "ripe" and susceptible.
Over time Candida will travel throughout your whole body like an invading army. Once Candida has gone systemic, it can hide in places where it’s very difficult to treat, like your joints, organs and your sinuses.
Trying the "Candida Cures", Money for Nothing
For more than four years we looked for a way to get over this. We tried all the "natural" Candida yeast medicines like spilanthes, usnea, garlic, pau d’arco, oregano oil, coconut oil, olive leaf, HSOs (Homeostatic Soil Organisms), colloidal silver, caprylic acid and many more.
